At WordChamp.com, our goal is to foster a safe learning environment in which students of all ages and levels have access to age-appropriate tools for improving communication and productivity in learning foreign languages.
Student security, and in particular the safety of our younger students, is taken very seriously. To this end, we have implemented various levels of controls specifically to protect students from Kindergarten through High School.
Please take the time to review the safety measures we have implemented to protect minors on our website, as well as the safety guidelines and tips listed below.
We will continue to monitor and review our policies for safety and security on an on-going basis. If you have any concerns or questions, or if you have thoughts on how we can further ensure a safe learning environment, please
contact us.
To ensure the security of children under 13, and students enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8 classes, these users are blocked from accessing WordChamp’s community network. This means that these students:
Can neither search for nor view other user profiles
Are not visible to other users
Can neither send nor receive messages to users outside of their class
Can neither send nor receive friend invitations
Students are only able to gain access to some, but not all, networking features (such as private class groups) at the teacher's discretion. These class activities will be limited to the students in the class, and will not be visible to other WordChamp users.
By default, students in grades 9 to 12 who are 13 years or older have access to all of the networking features on the site. However, teachers have the ability to disable community features for students in their classes. If a teacher disables access to WordChamp’s language and networking features, student profiles and privacy will be treated in the same manner as students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 classes.
In the event a Grade 9 to 12 teacher chooses not to block networking features, students will have access to the interactive learning environment of our general language learning website. Here, they can connect with speakers of other languages anywhere in the world, with the objective of fostering cross-cultural communications and improving language skills.

Talk to your students or child about online safety. In addition to the tips and suggestions we have on our website, below is a list of links to websites with tips and information for online safety. |

Teach children how to keep log-in information and passwords safe. Make sure that your students understand why it is important not to share log-in information with other students or friends. Students may however, share this information with teachers or parents. This is especially helpful for students under 13 who might be more likely to misplace or forget their log-in information. |

Participate in the WordChamp learning experience together. Any child aged under 13 years old is immediately restricted from gaining access to the networking that takes place on the website. However, if a parent would like for their child to access the rich language learning content and language sharing that takes place on the general site, we recommend that they create an account together. |
