The WordChamp® Language Help Toolbar
The WordChamp Language Help Toolbar lets you see definitions for words, and listen to audio recordings, on virtually any web page. Once you've gone to a web page and activated the toolbar, you can see definitions just by pointing your mouse at unfamiliar words. Many words also have audio clips, which you can hear by clicking on the audio links next to the words.
Installing the Toolbar
1.Click the link in the sidebar for the Language Help Toolbar for Firefox
2.It is possible that Firefox may block you from loading this toolbar, in which case you'll have to click the "Edit Options" button in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and add WordChamp to your list of allowed sites. Once you've done this, repeat the previous step.
3.Once you have installed the toolbar, you will have to restart Firefox.
4.Remember, the toolbar is still in its beta version — don't forget to come back for updates!
Using the Toolbar
1.First, navigate to the page you would like to read.
2.Next, click the "Turn Reader On" button in the WordChamp Language Help Toolbar.
3.Make sure that the toolbar languages are set correctly. The left drop-down menu specifies the language of the website, and the right drop-down menu specifies which language you would like translations in.
4.When you point your mouse at a word on the web page, you will see a box containing possible translations for the word you are pointing at. There are frequently multiple translations, in which case you will have to choose the one that is most appropriate, given the context. You can hear the word pronounced by a native speaker in most cases by clicking on the speaker icon. We are continually adding new definitions and audio to our database. It will continue to improve. You can also get additional information on the word by selecting one of the search links.
User Translations
In addition to the translations that we provide, you can also choose to view or hide translations that have been entered by other users. These translations are usually correct, and are generally quite useful (especially in languages which are less well-covered by the "official" translations). However, due to the potential for abuse, you also have the option of hiding these translations. In order to add your own translation you will need to go to our language learning website WordChamp and register (it's free!). Go to the Web Reader page and you can enter words into our database there.
Future Features
We are planning to provide additional features in the future, including support for additional browsers, and the ability to enter definitions and audio on the fly. To become aware of these future improvements, please join our rapidly expanding community of people interested in language tools at WordChamp. We currently have members from across the globe, representing 189 countries and 125 languages.
